An overwhelming
majority removed Senator Meagan Burney of Bethel #1, IOJD
from the Texas DeMolay Senate at the recently concluded 1999
TX DeMolay Government Day.
Ms. Burney began her crime spree early Saturday morning when
she tried to speak on the floor of the House. Speaker of the
House Blain Koenning, II ruled her out of order, claiming
that senators could only speak in the Senate. Ms. Burney was
then escorted out of the House and told to go back to the
Senate. Distraught over these events, Senator Burney began
to plot her revenge by kidnapping the helpless tribble, owned
by Senator Katie Prentice of Bethel #4.
Senator Prentice, who was also in the Senate, realized the
tribble was missing early Sunday. Several eyewitnesses overheard
Senator Burney's plan to kidnap the tribble. This led to the
eventual charges of theft and kidnapping to be brought against
the Senator. The stage was set for the first ever trial in
the Senate that this writer has ever seen.
Senior DeMolay "Colie" Wiles was brought in on behalf
of the defense. DSIKC Robert Atcheson led the prosecution's
case against the accused. The prosecution established that
Senator Burney did willingly and knowingly kidnap the tribble.
Also, they revealed the existence of a ransom note. The note
claimed that "the tribble would be returned unharmed
if Senator Burney was let back into the Senate." Having
rested on the evidence, the prosecution turned the floor over
to the defense. "Colie" Wiles, the defenses lead
counsel, claimed that Ms. Burney was only trying "to
preserve the integrity of the Senate." Also, they alleged
that it was "a right-winged Rainbow conspiracy"
that was trying to take the Senate. Both sides having presented
their case, it was time to vote. By an overwhelming majority,
Senator Burney was convicted of the charges and removed from
the Senate.
After the verdict, Senator Burney said, "I can't believe
yall did this to me." Ms. Prentice, who was the
victim in this horrible ordeal, stated, "Justice has
been served."
