Frequently Asked Questions

Am I required to attend meetings?
While we would like for you to attend as many meetings as possible, there are no attendance requirements in Albert Pike Chapter. For the purposes of earning an Attendance merit bar the Advisory Council of our Chapter has decided that, since many Chapters only meet twice a month (instead of every week as our Chapter does), attendance at two meetings every month will be considered "Perfect Attendance."

What if I need a ride to an event?
Chances are there are other DeMolays or advisors who live in your area. They will be happy to pick you up and take you to meetings or events. If you don't know of any DeMolays or advisors in your part of town, check the Contacts section to arrange for someone to give you a ride.

What kinds of costs go with out-of-town events?
Registration fees for events such as Government Day and Conclave typically run between $30-$40. This usually includes at least one meal. Aside from that, hotel room costs are divided between four DeMolays in each room, and usually are in the $10-$20 per night range for each person. You will want to bring enough money for several meals (depending on the length of the trip) and for any other items you think you might want to buy. Working at some of our fundraisers will help to defray at least part, if not all, of the costs of out-of-town trips.

Are our events chaperoned?
Any time DeMolays gather for an event or meeting, there will always be at least one (and probably several) advisors present. The DeMolays themselves are responsible for running meetings and making decisions, but adult supervision is always nearby.

Can my parents attend meetings?
As a matter of fact, yes. DeMolay International has recently changed the rules to allow parents to come to DeMolay meetings and to serve on the Advisory Council.

How will I have to dress for these events?
DeMolays are encouraged to purchase at least one suit (or a coat and tie) for use at our installation and initiation ceremonies where "dressing up" is proper. Chapter meetings are in school clothes (except shorts) for members and officers. The Master Councilor, Senior Councilor and Junior Councilor must wear a coat and tie to each Chapter meeting.

How do the dances work?
Well...girls come and we dance with them. Most dances are semiformal, so a coat and tie would be appropriate. DeMolays are welcome to bring a date and also to bring along one other couple.
