AUDITORIUM - STAGE LEVEL

The auditorium is one of the hidden jewels of San Antonio, and is one of the most acoustically perfect rooms in the city. With a maximum seating capacity of about 2900, the auditorium is host to a variety of meetings and performances throughout the year. There are no obstructed seats anywhere in the auditorium.

Entering the auditorium via a ramp from the lobby places you at the foot of the "arena." This 60x100 foot arena can be raised or lowered as needed to either extend the stage area or provide room for theatre-like seating in front of the stage.

Beyond the proscenium arch, the stage can be enhanced by combinations of more than 100 different backdrops depicting the various scenes and symbols of the degrees of Scottish Rite Masonry. Dressing rooms can be found to the left and right of the stage, and there are tunnels from each side of the backstage area which lead around to the entrance of the auditorium, allowing passage to and from the stage without being seen by the audience.

One of the most notable features of the auditorium is the Möller Pipe Organ, one of only a very few left in the world. The organ itself is to the right of the stage, but the pipes can be found behind the collonades to the left and right of the stage. Set into the ceiling, behind a beautiful carved circular screen depicting the emblems of the Scottish Rite, is the echo chamber for the organ.
